Its Halloween today, but I don’t see any signs of it here in the immaculate city of Vienna. This city is truly beautiful, and I believe it holds some culinary gems. The Dap-Kings and I find one when we stumble across Bierfink. We are almost deterred by the intense smokiness of this pub when we enter, but I can tell the food is going to be good. We all order without knowing what we are getting. I order some simple soup (which is delicious; they really know how to make soup stock out here) and schweinsrosen - steak mit gemuse, Knoblauchbutter, Spieglei und Pommes Frites. I know I am getting some kind of pork chop, but am pleasantly surprised by the fried egg on top. The pork is served with garlic butter (unstoppable), some vegetables cooked with garlic butter (damn good) and fries. Gabe orders goose, which is served with purple sauerkraut, a big round dense dumpling and a roasted apple with cranberry sauce. It tastes like thanksgiving. This is Austrian pub food and its pretty mind blowing.
